Week 3: another week of nothing but one thing extra

This week was not much different from the previous one in terms of actual workload, but it gave me more clarity about the people around me, the company structure, and who I should focus on connecting with as my internship continues. My work on the Document AI project remained limited, with only small daily tasks and little progress on the actual project itself. At this point, a lot of my experience has been more about learning the environment and understanding the company’s processes rather than doing technical work. Even though that can feel slow at times, I am starting to understand that internships are not always about jumping directly into projects, but also about building a foundation and understanding how everything works. A large part of this week was spent setting up my development environment. I installed Python and Visual Studio Code, which are both tools that I will need for upcoming technical tasks. What seemed like simple installations turned into a longer process because ...

Week 2: week of nothing

My second week at PNC was honestly much slower and more uneventful than I expected. Compared to the orientation week, which was packed with presentations, travel, and introductions, this week felt almost empty at times. Unfortunately, PNC is currently in the middle of the acquisition process involving First Bank, and it seems like the interns arrived right in the middle of that transition period. At first, I found the situation frustrating. Going into the internship, I expected to immediately start contributing to technical projects, learning new systems, and applying my skills in a meaningful way. Instead, most of the week consisted of short meetings, waiting for access permissions, and trying to understand the structure of the company. We learned that our team uses a platform ...

Week 1: First Impressions of Corporate America

My internship orientation was tiring, fun, and eye-opening at the same time. The experience started with a shuttle taking the Cleveland market interns to Pittsburgh. There were fewer than twenty of us on the shuttle, so the ride felt small and personal compared to the size of the company we were about to join. Most of us were still getting to know each other, so the atmosphere was a mix of awkwardness, curiosity, and excitement. Even before arriving, it already felt like we were entering a completely different world from normal college life.   Once we arrived in downtown Pittsburgh and entered PNC Plaza, I felt like I was seeing corporate America up close for the first time. Everywhere I looked there were skyscrapers, banks, executives, and hundreds of interns moving around the city. The environment felt fast, organized, and extremely professional. During the presentations, we learned more about PNC, the internship program, and the different markets interns were working in. One sta...
